Faded Glory:The Monuments of Ancient Rome

OVERVIEW

The remnants of ancient Rome are located at the city’s heart. The massive and iconic Colosseum and the Forum, center of the ancient city, still whisper of the greatness that was the Roman Empire.

Discover the marvels of ancient Rome on this walking tour with your own private licensed guide. You’ll wonder at the feats of engineering and the complexity of the city erected by the rulers of one of history’s greatest empires.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Your journey through time begins at the Flavian Amphitheater, more commonly known the world over as the Colosseum.  Completed in 80 A.D., it was the site of gladiatorial combat, mock naval battles and executions among other “entertainments”.

Next, you’ll visit the Roman Forum with your guide. Once the “downtown” of the early Republic, it was given a more refined purpose by the 2nd century BC, becoming the city’s ceremonial center during the Empire.  You’ll see remains of triumphal arches, temples to Roman deities and other sights.

Walk the Via Sacra, following in the footsteps of Caesar’s returning generals who travelled this road to arrive at the Temple of Jupiter to give thanks for their victories.

Your reserved tickets allow you to skip the long lines at both sites.
