DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Pisa, once a mighty maritime republic, financed its most famous monuments: the cathedral, baptistery, campanile (leaning tower) and cemetery, with earnings from trade and plunder from raids by its formidable fleet. These beautiful buildings were meant to reflect the Pisan Republic’s power and wealth.

You’ll visit these breathtaking sites, exploring on your own the treasures to be found within them.
Your next stop is Lucca which has a long and interesting history. A former Roman amphitheater was the framework for an intriguing piazza and its Renaissance walls have become a park and promenade, affording lovely views. Lucca boasts Romanesque churches, medieval tower houses, 18th century gardens and a Napoleonic square. You’ll enjoy discovering its numerous delights as well as the many artisan shops found here.
