Echoes of an Epoch:Siena & San Gimignano

OVERVIEW

Siena and San Gimignano are both medieval towns and UNESCO World Heritage sites, but they’re quite different from each other. Siena shows evidence of its past as a powerful city-state while San Gimignano is a once prosperous town lost in time.

Enjoy a day wandering the winding medieval streets of these two towns, steeped in history, where you’ll find artisans studios and intriguing shops as well as beautiful squares and unique architecture.
This driving tour, with personal English-speaking driver, is a great way to access these pedestrianized historical centers and you’ll travel in the comfort of a private, air-conditioned vehicle.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Siena’s architecture reflects its glorious past. Piazza del Campo is considered one of Europe’s greatest medieval squares. In this square, home to Siena’s famous Palio horse race, are found such architectural gems as the Palazzo del Popolo, Mangia Tower and Gaia Fountain.
You’ll discover surprising and delightful views as you make your way to Siena’s impressive Romanesque-Gothic cathedral; one of Italy’s most beautiful.

Passing through the famous Tuscan countryside, dotted with cypresses, vineyards & olive groves, you’ll arrive at San Gimignano; sometimes called the “Manhattan of Tuscany” for the towers defining its skyline.
In this town, which has largely retained its feudal atmosphere and appearance, you’ll enjoy discovering the sights like Piazza della Cisterna and the many artisans’ shops for which the town is known.
