Gems of the Orcia Valley:Pienza and Montalcino

OVERVIEW

Montalcino, a typical Tuscan hilltop town, is an impressive sight to behold with its encircling walls and imposing fortress.  But Montalcino isn’t just a lovely hill town; it’s also famous for one of Italy’s best and most expensive red wines: Brunello.

Pienza, a beautiful little town, is a designated UNESCO World Heritage site for being the Renaissance’s first planned “ideal town”.
Both towns are set on hills overlooking the breathtaking Orcia Valley, itself a UNESCO World Heritage site.
This driving tour takes you to this unmissable landscape in a private, air-conditioned vehicle with an English-speaking driver at your disposal for your visit’s duration.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

On the outskirts of Montalcino, you can choose an optional guided visit and tasting at one of the area’s top wineries which includes a walk through the vineyards, visit to the cellars and technical description of this acclaimed wine.

Afterward, you’ll visit Montalcino itself. Once inside the town, you’ll be charmed by the medieval atmosphere from its narrow, twisting streets and the main square’s 13th century town hall and 14th century loggia.
After your exploration of the winding lanes and quaint shops of Montalcino, you’ll make your way to Pienza which, aside from its beauty, is famous for its Pecorino: a cheese made from ewe’s milk. From the town you can enjoy stunning views over the Val d’Orcia.
