Revealing Baroque Rome

OVERVIEW

In the 17th century, parts of Rome were refashioned in the Baroque style. Beautiful squares, elaborate fountains and new churches were created and decorated with magnificent artwork by the top artists of the day.

Your private licensed guide will take you on a walking tour to see the sights from the Baroque period such as the famous Trevi Fountain, considered one of the most beautiful fountains in the world, and the Spanish Steps, Europe’s widest staircase with its 138 steps.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

During a redevelopment of Rome in the 1600’s, twisting, narrow streets of the middle ages gave place to wide boulevards and spacious squares in the Baroque style. The city was filled with flamboyant fountains and elaborate palaces designed and decorated by masters.

Many of these beautiful sites remain today.  In addition to the Spanish Steps in Piazza di Spagna and Trevi Fountain, your personal local guide will show you Rome’s largest square: Piazza del Popolo with its Egyptian obelisk.

You’ll also visit the Pantheon; Rome’s best-preserved ancient building and burial site of Italian monarchs and the painter Raphael.

Finally, you’ll see the breathtaking and elegant Piazza Navona, the best expression of the Baroque style in Rome and ideal spot for a coffee or gelato.
