In addition to the famous basilica dedicated to St. Francis, you can also explore sites dating back to its Roman roots and its medieval heritage.
You’ll reach Assisi in your private air-conditioned vehicle. Your English-speaking driver, at your disposal for the duration of the visit, will bring you to the town’s highest point to begin your exploration of this intriguing and inspiring city.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Assisi rises in rose-colored glory from the greenery carpeting the slopes of Mt. Subasio. Starting from the town’s highest part; your route traces Assisi’s history from Roman times to the glory of the Basilica of St. Francis as you pass through the town’s main square and along its main street, ending at the Basilica itself. Along the way, you can visit some of Assisi’s other important landmarks.

The Basilica was begun in 1128, immediately after Francis’ canonization as a saint: only 2 years after his death. The Basilica is important, not only for St. Francis’ tomb, but also for its collection of frescoes by some of the most important artists of the Late Medieval period such as Giotto and Cimabue.
