DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Cortona, established by the Etruscans, rose to prominence as member of the Etruscan “Dodecapolis” (a federation of 12 city-states). Much evidence of this civilization is still found in the town today, such as the necropolis and the city walls. The town also boasts one of the best museums of Etruscan artifacts in Tuscany.

Stroll the winding streets, soaking up the Medieval atmosphere of this walled town with charming artisan shops. Discover important works by artists such as Fra’Angelico and local sons Luca Signorelli and Pietro da Cortona in the town’s Museo Diocesano.
One of Cortona’s attractions is the beauty of its surroundings. From Piazza Garibaldi, enjoy sweeping views over the breathtaking Val di Chiana and to Lake Trasimeno’s emerald waters.
